"Rikai means to depart from formality&sbquo interpret the rationality (ri) of the meaning and content&sbquo and internalize the ability to explain it. Rikai comes from "believing and trusting the existence of god with a sincere attitude. " It then led from mere understanding of the subject (from god to the human being) to being considerate to the feelings and situations of others. The idea of rikai spread from its theological meaning to include understanding of natural science and psychiatry. M. Weber concluded that methodology based on understanding is the most effective method as a means to explain phenomena sociologically. Later&sbquo it was Heidegger who further defined understanding. He went beyond the dimension of methodology and deepened this difinition to the dimension of proving existence as "being=reality." From here&sbquo the methodology of a research process called ethnomethodology was developed by Gurfinke as phenomenological sociology&sbquo that is&sbquo as a theory of interaction of social phenomena.Understanding towards design has not yet reached an objective and rational stage. In reality&sbquo understanding for design is only established in the capitalistic structure of production and consumption. To change this situation&sbquo it is no doubt necessary to create design expressions by making the ethnomethodological process of understanding itself into a design methodology. For example&sbquo in the assessment of good design its understanding is first attempted by subjective consciousness&sbquo but by incorporating that subjective understanding into the argument&sbquo an assessment as a subject of objective understanding becomes possible. This is the present state of design assessment. As to the essence of design&sbquo however&sbquo although there is this axis of assessment&sbquo an objective understanding has not yet been achieved. It is certain that this is a big problem for design. I firmly believe that true understanding of design can be achieved by defining design as the very process determined by the user's understanding of its sense of value&sbquo stance&sbquo and ease-of-use."
