Dialectic

Dialectic starts out with a hypothetical proposition. If a certain conclusion is reached from this hypothesis it will govern the validity of the hypothetical proposition it-self. Dialectic is a method of deductive argument by logical means or dialogs. From Socrates' question-and-answer type dialogical skills Plato distinguished dialectic from such logic as geometry&sbquo which is based on axiomatic premises&sbquo and defined that dialectic is in itself a philosophical method. in contrast to Socrates and Plato&sbquo who proposed the methodology from a hypothesis to principle&sbquo Aristotle presented a methodology from a principle to hypothesis. In the 18th century&sbquo dialectic became synonymous with logic. It became a foundation for building ideologies for Kant and Hegel&sbquo and then for Marx&sbquo Engels&sbquo and Stalin. It eventually led to advocacy of dialectic as a practical study of the demonstration of subject and object&sbquo mainly by G. Lukacs&sbquo and the demonstrative method of Kierkegaard and K. Barth from this context. The dialectic and the presence of dialectic logic in design or design methodology must be reexamined here. I believe dialectic thinking and the process of implementation and its logical axis&sbquo that is the relationship between hypothesis and principle&sbquo is at work in design to a great degree. It may be said that by dialectic we obtain deductive answers or solutions through constantly questioning the subject of design and its effect by going back and forth between hypothesis and principle&sbquo and then to the embodiment of design. Even if the argument is inductive&sbquo the essential solution afforded by design is always objective&sbquo and an objective setting of hypothesis and principle is made into the subject of design as an objective body. Therefore&sbquo even if the designer's subjectivity or subjective view is conceptual&sbquo the value of the thing or event designed is evaluated solely objectively. It may be firmly stated that design and its effect is derived as a solution by dialectic logic.
