Typeface

A type indicates a group that shares certain common characteristics. Form this basic meaning it developed to represent category&sbquo style and mode. It then expanded to in clued stereotype&sbquo sample and actual example. A typeface indicates a style of characters that can be put into a group of patterns that share a common characteristic like the letter types used in printing&sbquo typewriters and prototypes. From here&sbquo typeface later became a term that expressed various font types and the font it self. After the invention of typographic printing by Gutenberg&sbquo diverse forms of typeface appeared with the development of metal character types and printing technology&sbquo and the number of variations grew enormously. The expression and look of characters people demand has changed drastically with the times&sbquo and there is a history of fonts that reflects the times. Classical fonts are also being revived and new fonts are created constantly. The sans-serif that arose from Bauhaus&sbquo constructivism and dada&sbquo the appearance of a family of fonts that integrated serif and sans-serif&sbquo and the refined style of the multiple master typeface are all considered to be great evolutionary changes. Furthermore&sbquo if we consider the relationships among various languages&sbquo the form of each language and style of characters used are merging in many areas through internationalization of ethnicities and societies. Especially of late&sbquo font styles have changed drastically due to the appearance of the computer and the so-called digital fonts. In the early days of the computer&sbquo digital fonts were in the bit map format&sbquo but today the outline format has become the mainstream and has been a major factor in changing typography itself since it allows such effects as enlarging and reducing the typeface. The realization of desktop publishing (DTP) served as the background for this. Future evolution of the typeface will require-in all media&sbquo from printing to video images-a more interface-like design based not only on static font styles but dynamic ones as well.
